Bundy City to Coast Ride June 2010

Around 25 members from our group turned up to support our sister BUG's (the 'Mad Cycologists') annual event.

Another fine, sunny day in paradise saw over 600 riders take part in this 20 kilometer event.

 (pre)Australia Day BBQ 2010

On the 23rd January, after the regular Saturday morning ride in Hervey Bay, the club held it's annual pre-Australia Day Pizza & BBQ bash at Mark & Sue's place at the Pacific Haven Airpark. Features of the day were unlimited wood fired pizzas from the clay oven amongst many other culinary delights.

Entertainment extended to a private aerobatics display for the party by neighbour & guest, Mr John Jackson in his Russian Yak 52. For those needing even more excitement, Brad brought along his 3 meter long pet carpet python.

Some members stayed overnight and were treated to a cycle tour of the area and a BBQ breakfast the next day.

A full set CD of this event can be supplied on request to a smiling webmaster.

 Brooklyn House, Howard August 2009

The Weekend morning signature rides look set to become overshadowed by the midweek rides, if one Wednesday morning is anything to go by. Following a tour of the Howard township the previous week, taking in some historic sights such as Andrew Fishers house (first Australian Labor PM), 30 members & their guests rode from various starting points and converged on Brooklyn House in historic Howard. Devonshire teas all round. This was followed by an informative & leisurely tour of the 100+ year old building providing a captivating insight into life in the late 19th century. Thanks to the Ward family for their hospitality.

 Ride  for Glendyne 2009

A goodly contingent of BUGS fronted at the car park at Scarness on Monday morning 20th April at 6am to see off Simon Boss-Walker and a party of eight road cyclists (two for a couple of days only) who were cycling 1,781 kms to raise funds for Glendyne School.. Glendyne School works with disadvanted teen-agers using an alternative education model. They plan to raise $130,000 cycling a route inland to Rockhampton, west to Springsure, south to Roma and then back to Hervey Bay over ten days.

Kilkivan Ride March 28 2009

The club had two events in swing this weekend. The Kilkivan Ride was undertaken by around 15 members, taking in all that the region had to offer. For all the main photos generously supplied by a number of riders, click here.the gang

Ecofest Hervey Bay USQ March 28 2009

Ecofest showcased the environmentally friendly services and products from private business and government. This was supported by many stallholders in the relaxed surroundings bounded by the city library and USQ campus. Fraser Coast BUG operated a stall informing locals of the benefits of cycling. This weekend was certainly a busy one for the club.

Big Huge Field Day Hervey Bay March 21 2009

One corner of Sunshine Acres plantation paddock (down Vanderwolf Rd) was transformed into an excellent field day showing how we can become a part of  the Coastal Water Quality Alliance and the Better Catchments community team doing our bit for the environment. Cycling is very eco friendly as well as healthy. The FCBUG display offered a range of useful literature as well as the chance to cycle around the Wide Bay Water's Hardwood Plantation. http://www.coastalwaterqualityalliance.org.au/

Wandering through Wongi March 8 2009

One of the Fraser Coast's better kept secrets is Wongi State Forest just off the Bruce Highway north of Maryborough. Many kilometres of winding Forestry roads offer excellent mountain biking opportunities over a range of levels of difficulty. FCBUG sampled some of the easier ones enjoying a new but fun experience. Rather different to rolling over the bitumen on the Esplanade down at Hervey Bay!

Over time the FC BUG will be GPS plotting a range of cycling trails through Wongi so watch the FC BUG website for details on how to download the electronic maps/GPS plots or obtain paper copies.

Some of the BUG's on the ride- and the obligatory group photo.

The survey team who went out some weeks earlier to plot some of the routes- and got drenched in the process!
